On Tuesday, April 13 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. the State Capitol Rotunda and the Capitol Courtyard is transformed into the "Children's Capitol for a Day". Thousands of children, parents, advocates, community leaders and policy makers from throughout the state gather for a day of educational and interactive events and activities. Teachers and students are encouraged to bring their students to the State Capitol for a field trip, tour the Capitol to learn about the legislative process, meet with policy makers and enjoy a fun and informative atmosphere of learning. Legislators will read books to children at the Legislative Reading Corner and a healthy boxed-lunch will be provided to all students and schools that RSVP to attend Children's Weeks "Children's Capitol for a Day."
Press Conference and "Hanging of the Hands" Dedication Ceremony


On Tuesday, April 13 at 9 a.m. non-profit partners, elected officials, policy makers, faith based leaders and advocates join together to recognize the efforts of Florida's teachers, parents and children and dedicate the Children's hand art display to the Florida Legislature. April 13th will be announced as the official "Children's Capitol for a Day" with a signed proclamation from Governor Charlie Crist.
Children's Activities and Entertainment


Over 80 interactive non-profit Children's activity booths are set up throughout Capitol Courtyard and Rotunda to provide interactive activities and information regarding Children's programs in Florida. Children can receive free health screenings, face painting, science experiments, balloons and much more. Children's Week T-shirts and

Children's Week Luncheon


On Tuesday, April 13 at 11:30 a.m. thousands of attendees will receive complimentary healthy boxed lunches. Lunches are provided on a first come, first served basis. Advanced lunch reservations are accepted for large classes or groups traveling to Tallahassee. To request complimentary lunches, please send RSVP no later than Friday, April 2, 2010 to

Guided Tours of the Capitol


Monday, April 12, 2010 through Wednesday, April 14, 2010
9:00 a.m.- 3:00 p.m. New and Old Capitol buildings
Bring your family, class or organization to the Capitol during Children's Week and enjoy guided tours of the old and new Capitol buildings. Groups will tour the Florida State Capitol buildings during Legislative Session and learn more about Florida government, civics and state history. Tours last between 45 minutes to 1 hour 30 minutes and provide a 'live classroom' for youth and adults to learn about Florida politics and civics. Legislative Reading Corner


On Tuesday, April 13 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Capitol Courtyard more than a dozen legislators will read to children and Reach Out & Read Florida will provide complimentary books to children. Last year, hundreds of books were provided to children and dozens of legislators participated in the Legislative Reading Corner every year.

"Kids Only" Town Hall Meeting


This event provides a forum for students from across the state to pose poignant questions to the Florida Children and Youth Cabinet about the state of Children's issues and services. The 20-member Cabinet chaired by Lt. Governor Jeff Kottkamp and comprised of government officials, policy makers, and Children's developmental and advocacy experts will hear from a twelve member student panel, selected from a statewide pool of student applicants.
